uncommon tech talent

At Uncommon, we train unemployed young adults living on less than $5 per day for the technology workforce.

We can change lives, one job at a time.

uncommon talent

Uncommon graduates are entrepreneurial, curious and purpose minded young adults that have chosen to invest in themselves despite myriad life obstacles. Our free, Technology Bootcamp is a full-time program designed to help unemployed young adults living in Zimbabwe's high density neighborhoods launch their careers in tech.

The Bootcamp is also about giving back and building the future Zimbabwe we all believe in. In addition to learning new tech skills, our participants teach free computer coding classes daily, providing an innovative learning experience to 1,000s of primary & secondary students at our partner Government schools.

why uncommon

The Uncommon Theory of Change is simple and rests on three key pillars: Investing in Digital Education; Developing Local Tech Talent Through Meaningful Employment; Empowering Local Problem Solvers Through Digital Entrepreneurship.

In 2024, we are on pace to teach computer coding to 10,000+ youth living in Zimbabwe's low-income neighborhoods, many of whom are first time computer users, and to help 200 unemployed young adults launch their technology careers. We believe that tech education and employment opportunities should be available to anyone and everyone, but we can't do it alone. We'd be delighted to welcome you into our community of Uncommon Partners.

We had the privilege of hosting Cecilie Udsen Gleberg Falk, Senior UI/UX Designer at the LEGO Group, for a creative workshop at Uncommon HQ!

Through playful yet powerful activities, our team was guided to rediscover our creative instincts and celebrate what makes each of us unique. During the workshop, we used LEGO bricks to construct representations of our fondest memories and ideal learning environments.

What emerged weren't just colorful structures but windows into how differently we all think, learn, and solve problems. Some built elaborate, detailed models that showed their methodical approach, while others created abstract representations that revealed their big-picture thinking.

Huge thanks to Cecilie for sharing her expertise and to LEGO for constantly reminding us that the best learning happens through play!
